Another adoption

I am happy to say that Mild Cheddar seems to have completely recovered from his impalement and subsequent surgery. I can also add that he has been adopted.

By our other cats.

The tuxedo, Freya, is a rescue from long before we moved here (we estimate she is about 10 years old). While she has been happy to accept David, who joined us indoors this summer as we treated his eyes, she has truly been reliving her mothering years with Mild Cheddar.

The gorgeous long haired grey cat joined us indoors this past winter, having shown up in our yard as a kitten last spring, where she was welcomed into the creche by the other yard cats we had at the time. We suspect she was abandoned. She, too, is quite taken with her new younger siblings!

So it seems our temporary need to keep Mild Cheddar indoors while he recovered from surgery has become permanent.

The indoor cats have spoken.

Please visit our adoption list to see which kittens are still available.

Excellent recovery

I am happy to pass on that Mild Cheddar is recovering very well. He immediately bounced back to his active self, much to the delight of his cousin, Dave.

Now that he is indoors, we have discovered:

  • he loves face cuddles
  • he loves to sleep on people.
  • Especially on faces.
  • Or upside down in armpits.
  • Or under the covers.
  • As long as it’s on or against a sleeping human, he wants to be there!
  • he is a ball of energy, and it’s a good thing we have another kitten indoors, because the adult cats will not put up with it! πŸ˜€
  • he has discovered that people eat things that SMELL AMAZING AND HE MUST HAVE SOME, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE ISN’T ANYTHING FOR ME?
  • he likes walking across keyboards
  • if you only went by his behaviour, you would never know he was ever hurt!
  • I think I should go investigate that noise…

Rescue me!

Our poor little Mild Cheddar seems to have lost a jousting match, and is now down one life!

We did not know what happened, but saw a strange thing on his side.

We thought it was a rib.

Thankfully, the awesome, amazing, fantastic people at the Gimli Vet Clinic were able to take him in and fix him up!

Our heroic Mild Cheddar did very well, somehow managing to impale himself with a stick the tip of a lance, through his arm pit, but just under the skin.

This mighty knight is now required to be indoors for at least one week.

His cousin, David, is happy to see him, at least. The other indoor cats are not too impressed.

After all this, we don’t want to send him outside again after he heals up.

But we already have 4 indoor cats.

This brave and mighty kitty needs to be rescued!

Will you be the one to invite him into your kingdom?

Also, we got to keep the lance tip.

There’s not a lot of room up there, but I’m sure Two-Face would like to share her post with you!

I think we’re going to have to come up with a new name for this little lady. As she grows bigger, her colours are becoming more distinct, and she no longer looks like her face is half orange, half grey, like when she was little.

If you live in the central Manitoba area and would like to adopt this beautiful girl, feel free to contact us.

Living the adventure!

As the kittens are getting bigger, they are exploring further out on the property.

Creamsicle is excited about new trees to climb!

Unfortunately, this is one of the reasons we would really love for our yard cats to be adopted into nice, safe indoor homes! In the short time we’ve lived here, many of the yard cats we started taking care of have simply disappeared. These babies are so socialized and used to humans, they are really confident and friendly which, ironically, puts them in greater danger of being harmed by cars or predators.

If you are in the central Manitoba area, or even as far south as Winnipeg, and can find it in your heart to give Creamsicle a forever home, please feel free to contact us.
